PAMANA TALKS: Philippine History Through The Lens of Local Church Architecture

All seats have been taken! Registration is now closed. Thank you!

Our local church buildings are treasure troves of Philippine history, telling stories of faith and fervor of the Filipino people for the last 400+ years. Many of them are known to be outstanding examples of the Philippine interpretation of Western styles, representing the fusion of European church design and construction, using local materials and employing decorative motifs to form new church-building traditions. While interest in local church architecture and their preservation has gained significant ground in the last few decades, there’s still much to be discovered. One has to gain a critical eye and a discerning mind to better understand how Philippine history took shape in forms of façades, altars, belfries, domes, walls, convents, and so much more. Look at various clues left from its most minute architectural details, and big questions such as the rise and fall of cultures, towns and cities are answered in the most interesting light (and maybe you might want to know the answer if it’s indeed true that we used eggs to build our churches?)

Join us this Friday night August 14, 6:30pm with principal architect and 2017 UAP Outstanding Young Architect of the Year, Roy John de Guzman, as we talk about Philippine History through the Lens of Local Church Architecture. Ask you most pressing history and heritage questions to Roy on Facebook Live!

FREE ADMISSION! Register now to secure your slot and be able to earn your e-Certificate of Participation (please read the FAQs below for more info). Limited seats only.
