Comic book artist Carlo Vergara led the second edition of the Grupo Kalinangan, Inc. (GKI)’s Guhit Pamana, a sketching and drawing workshop for artists, hobbyists, and heritage advocates. The workshop was held on 1 June 2019 at the MiraNila Heritage House and Library in Quezon City.

Vergara, known for being the creator of Filipino superhero Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah, shared his techniques for drawing and sketching details of historic places, monuments, and sites before letting the participants try the techniques themselves in a hands-on exercise.

The workshop featured the MiraNila Heritage House, a historic Florentine-style mansion completed in 1929, built by pioneering educators and constitutionalists Conrado and Francisca Benitez. The Benitezes were co-founders of the Philippine Women’s University and the University of the Philippines College of Business Administration. The house was declared a National Heritage House by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines in 2011.

Participants were treated to an intimate tour of the house which showcased a vast collection of antique ceramics and furniture, rare books, Benitez memorabilia, and paintings including those by National Artists Fernando Amorsolo and Carlos “Botong” Francisco.

Guhit Pamana is one of the Pamana Workshops being offered by GKI. The organization also organizes a heritage photography workshop (Litrato Pamana) and a heritage culinary workshop (Lutong Pamana).
